How to Play
Strafox is a counterstrafe training game. Dodge incoming obstacle walls by strafing through the gaps. The game evaluates your counterstrafe timing on every direction change.
What is counterstrafing?
In games like CS2, you slide when you release a movement key. To stop instantly, you tap the opposite key — this is a counterstrafe. The faster you tap, the quicker you stop, and the sooner you can shoot accurately.
Strafox uses the same physics model as the Source engine to simulate
this. Movement is driven by the actual Friction +
Accelerate
functions from the engine.
Timing
Your counterstrafe is rated based on the gap between releasing one key and pressing the opposite:
| Perfect | 0 – 60ms | Up to 2x score bonus for faster timing |
| Slow | 61 – 150ms | Score penalty |
| Overlap | Both keys held | Score penalty |
Perfect strafes build combos. Each consecutive Perfect multiplies your score. Any Slow or Overlap breaks the combo. Strafes only count when you're moving fast enough — no gaming the system by wiggling at low speed.

Tips
Watch the velocity indicator on your ship — the horizontal line shows your current speed and direction. A perfect counterstrafe brings it to zero almost instantly. Try to time your direction changes so you pass through gaps at zero velocity.
